Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk AS is a traditional Norwegian family owned wool spinning mill founded in 1898. It has been in the same family for four generations, and some of the machines that are being used are over 100 years old. Hillesvåg Ullvarefabrikk is a newly certified Economusée, one of ten Economusées in Norway today.
Farm to Cable Yarns is now carrying Sølje, a 4 ply yarn spun by Hillesvåg from the Norwegian pelssau breed. The Norwegian Pelssau (also known as Norwegian Pelt or Norwegian Fur Sheep) originated as a cross between Gotland and Old Norwegian. This native breed has a lustrous, curly fleece, with a combination of dark grey, grey and white coloured fleece.
The natural colour (Naturga) of the pelssau fleece is grey and thus Sølje does not come in a pure white. As a result we also carry Hillesvåg’s Vilje lambswool in the natural white colour.
Sølje comes in a variety of beautiful colours, overdyed on the natural grey wool, resulting in rich and deep colours, with a beautiful lustre. Sølje is perfect for colourwork and textured patterns.
Note: some of the colourways may appear very similar to one another on certain monitors - if you would like to see any colourways side by side or grouped together please don't hesitate to contact us.
