Davvi Mitten Kits - The Little Grey Sheep and Laine Magazine
Davvi means ‘north’ in the Northern Sámi language. The design was inspired by shapes found in traditional Sámi clothing, woven belts in particular, as well as the natural chevron shape of trees in the forest and the peaks of mountains.
The body of these fingerless gloves features a combination of twisted stitches and colourwork knitting to create a quilted effect. Purl and knit stitches are introduced to the sides of the repeat section to gradually make the chevron shapes smaller. The gloves are knit using three contrasting colours chosen to create a fade or gradient.
The yarn used in the kit is The Little Grey Sheep Hampshire 4 ply. The kit is available in 2 colour variations, pink or blue, consisting of 1 - 40gr skein of the main colour (grey or pale blue) and 3- 20 g skeins of the contrast colours (gradient shades of pink or blue). You can buy the kit with or without Laine Issue 7, which includes the pattern for Davvi.
